Stolen Moment (New Song)

A stolen moment is more precious than hours and hours of time that’s wasted.
So take those hours and hours and make them count,
Until a stolen moment comes about.

A kiss of passion is more precious than heartless lips and cold embraces.
So take these heartless lips and make them count,
Until a kiss of passion comes about.

A pinch of true love is more precious than buckets full of good intentions.
So take those good intentions and make them count,
Until a pinch of true love comes about.

Like Like Unlike: Released

Early in 2011 I was persuaded back onto Facebook, after leaving in annoyance the previous year… it seemed everyone was on there already, sharing news, pictures, etc, etc, but I’ve never been that cosy with the whole Facebook society, compared to the ‘good old days’. So, I wrote this song: Like Like Unlike…(here’s the original post with the lyrics)

In the summer I launched my album Cage for the Clouds, and played Like Like Unlike live for the first time, the raw recording made its way online and got big love from loads of folks including many friends and a couple of DJs.

So, seeing as I didn’t plan another album for a year or so, I thought I’d record and release the song – and throw in a Christmas carol since it’s nearly December already!!

And... I'd always wanted to put out some 'unplugged' versions of my songs, so I sat down with a Fender Rhodes and recorded them all straight-off, no overdubs. There's 7 tracks, including a couple of new songs not available anywhere else.

And if all that wasn’t enough, there’s an exclusive early preview of ‘Two Kinds of Blue’ – an early demo from a 10-track blues/funk album, coming summer 2012.

The full 11-track package is available for a nominal fee, or you can download a couple of the tracks for ‘pay-what-you-want’.

Last-minute Gig… [22 July @ Dexters]

Hi folks
This Friday 22nd July from 8pm at Dexters Bar Dundee, I’m opening for The Violent Whispers at their EP Launch gig. It’s all a bit last-minute, as their original support act had to cancel.

Anyway, it gives me another chance to sing my songs before heading off on summer holidays, and I plan to debut a new song ‘Like Like Unlike‘ – based on the facebook generation, and looking back wistfully to younger days… lyrics were written a few months back, see blog post here.

Also, here’s a novel thing… Wordle enables you to make word clouds from any piece of writing… here’s my song ‘Paradise’ in graphical word-cloud format:

Dutch diversion during disc deployment

Working abroad once again, this time in the Netherlands, where the radio is chock-full of english-language rock and pop!   The people I’ve met here are friendly, laid-back, modest, hard-working and laid-back…

Anyway, this is just a small diversion as I prepare to launch debut album ‘Cage for the Clouds’ – official release date July 1st 2011 – and available to pre-order now direct from tattierecords.com – plus you get cash-back for each person you refer with your unique TattieCode – or use it yourself for discounts on CDs, T-shirts, etc…

And my next live performance will be in Dundee at Tonic on Sunday 26 June – this will be the album launch gig because it’s nearly July 1st (and the fact I’ll not be playing another live date around then, as it’s holiday time!!).  More about this gig soon…

Eleventh gig, best yet…

So, Sunday night at Tonic Dundee was my eleventh solo appearance, and possibly the best yet!   Not since my lowly debut at the Underground 17 months previously have I strung together 10 songs on-stage.  (Full gig history here)

And all this while recovering from a 10km run (fancy sponsoring?) and an inflamed throat…  aw well, it helped lend a husky sound to the bar-room drawl…

The bar was pretty well full – and they seemed to enjoy the music…  it takes guts to sing your songs in a room full of drinkers, but there was plenty of smiles and applause, so I’m happy.  I heard the comment from a punter that it’s nice to hear a piano for a change.

After my set I sold a couple of CDs and got talking to some guys in the audience who enjoyed the music… may have a useful contact and some developments there: watch this space…

Finlay and Nicky both appeared on the bill too: playing acoustic guitar and singing a range of familiar songs.  Keith + James were up later, and I had a chin-wag, though I couldn’t stay long enough to hear them – though going on previous performances they would have done a good job of pleasing the crowd.

Hoped to have some video footage of the evening, but none due to technical difficulties: you’ll just have to get out and see me live!!

Speaking of which, there should be one or two more gigs coming soon: see you there.

First batch of CDs!

Happy to say I’ve got my first limited batch of CDs…  They have the  first 2 chunks of tunes from Cage for the Clouds, plus a wee bonus track – all for the bargain price of £2!

They have a lovely self-made laser-etched design, thanks to Gary for doing the lightscribing.

They’ll be on sale at gigs – the next of which is this Sunday at 9pm, Tonic, Dundee (Nethergate, opposite Queen’s Hotel)…  see you there!
